A Review on Strengthening of Timber Beams Using Fiber Reinforced Polymers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been used in the construction industry because of its advantages such as high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, low density and elasticity. This paper presents a review bonding techniques adopted to strengthen timber beams using FRP achieve larger spans. Different methods between have summarized with focus on influencing factors their effects well relevant bond-slip models proposed for fundamental understanding. Experimental investigations evaluate flexural performance strengthened by bars, sheets wraps also critically reviewed identify key parameters. Limited research available shear analyzed determine timber-FRP beams. The finally an overall summary current-state-of-the-art proposes some future directions field.

Strengthening of Corrosion-Damaged Reinforced Concrete Beams with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Laminates
Problem statement: This study showed the results of an experimental investigation on the strengthening of corrosion damaged reinforced concrete beams with unidirectional cloth glass fiber reinforced polymer (UDCGFRP) laminates. Approach: All the beam specimens 150×250×3000 mm were cast and tested for the present investigation. One beam specimen was neither corroded nor strengthened to serve as ...
متن کاملA Review on Strengthening Steel Beams Using FRP under Fatigue
In recent decades, the application of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for strengthening structural elements has become an efficient option to meet the increased cyclic loads or repair due to corrosion or fatigue cracking. Hence, the objective of this study is to explore the existing FRP reinforcing techniques to care for fatigue damaged structural steel elements. This study covers the...
متن کاملStrengthening of Fiber-reinforced Self-healing Ceramics
ID No: FC-169 ABSTRACT The continuous fiber reinforced self-healing ceramic composites (shFRC) were proposed as one of the candidate materials for turbine blade [1]. The shFRC consists of three components, which are oxide fiber bundle, oxide matrix and self-healing agent interlayer. As the self-healing is generated at only the interlayer, it is necessary that crack propagation is led into the i...
متن کاملFRP for Flexural Strengthening of Timber Bridge Beams
The majority of timber bridges in Canada requires flexural and/or shear strengthening to increase their load-carrying capacity in response to the demand to increase the allowable gross vehicle weight. This paper presents an innovative approach for the use of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) to strengthen timber bridges. The advantages of this strengthening system are inevitable: fibre reinforced...
متن کاملFlexural Strengthening of Deficient Reinforced Concrete Beams with Post-Tensioned Carbon Composites using Finite Element Modelling
The application of external post-tensioned steel bars as an effective way to strengthen an existing bridge has been so far used in many different countries. In recent decades, however, they have been replaced by bars made from Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), as a material with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance, to address several concerns with steel bars such as their appli...
